Wedding Photography at John Pounds Church Old Portsmouth

Sadie and Antonio chose one of the most charming spots in Portsmouth for their ceremony and honestly the whole day had that same warm, relaxed energy from start to finish. They booked my essentials package but we still packed in so many lovely moments along the way.

The Ceremony at John Pounds Church, Old Portsmouth

John Pounds Church is such a special little gem in the heart of Old Portsmouth. Warm, welcoming and full of character — and the officiant was brilliantly relaxed and funny which completely set the tone for the whole ceremony. There was even a moment right at the start where Antonio got something slightly wrong and the two of them just completely dissolved into laughter. One of those lovely unguarded moments that you just cannot plan for and makes a ceremony feel completely real 😊

Couples Portraits Around Old Portsmouth

After the ceremony Sadie really wanted to explore Old Portsmouth for portraits and honestly it is one of my favourite places in the city to shoot so I was completely on board. Sadie looked absolutely stunning and the backdrop of Old Portsmouth did the rest.
We stopped at the Hotwalls — the historic Grade I listed harbour fortifications dating back to the 15th century — and photographed Sadie and Antonio under the beautiful stone archway of the Point Battery, which leads through from the street down to the beach. There is something genuinely magical about that archway and it made for some really special portraits.
We also captured some gorgeous shots with the iconic Spinnaker Tower in the background — always a Portsmouth landmark that adds something special to a frame.

The Reception at Southsea Golf Club

From there it was on to the reception where I captured the speeches and their first dance. The team had hung fairy lights from the ceiling which gave the room a really lovely warm glow for the dancing and made for a beautiful atmosphere to end the day.

Thinking About Getting Married in Old Portsmouth?

Old Portsmouth is genuinely one of the most beautiful and historic settings for wedding portraits in Hampshire. The Hotwalls, the Round Tower, the Cathedral, the Spinnaker Tower — it is all right there and every corner has something incredible to offer a photographer.
If you are getting married in Portsmouth or anywhere across Hampshire, West Sussex, Surrey and beyond and you are looking for a fun candid photographer who will make the most of every location and every moment, I would love to hear from you 😊
