I’m Emma, a fun and candid wedding photographer based just up the road in Portsmouth, Hampshire. Newtown House Hotel is one of my favourite local venues, I’ve photographed both weddings and vow renewals here, and every time I leave with a massive smile (and usually a bit sad to miss the after-party!). A Hidden Gem on Hayling Island

If you haven’t come across Newtown House Hotel yet, you really should have. This gorgeous 18th-century converted farmhouse is one of those venues that completely surprises you when you arrive. Think old ship’s beams, oak panelling and stone fireplaces sitting alongside lovely modern touches, so it’s full of character and warmth. And honestly? The team there are some of the loveliest I’ve ever worked with at any wedding venue. They genuinely go above and beyond for their couples, and it shows in every little detail of the day. It’s an independent, family-run hotel, and you really feel that personal care throughout.

Beautiful Spots for Photos

For a venue with so much character, Newtown gives you lovely variety. There’s the warm, characterful ceremony room, the gardens for family formals and couples portraits when the weather plays nicely, and that gorgeous characterful entrance that makes a brilliant backdrop when it doesn’t (a little flexibility goes a long way, and I always have a plan B!). I’ve shot everything here from golden September light in the grounds to dramatic off-camera-flash portraits up on the balcony under grey winter skies. Whatever the season throws at us, there’s always somewhere to create something beautiful.

My style is natural, unposed and full of life, with a creative eye for the bold and dramatic too. I’m there for all of it: the getting-ready nerves and giggles, the emotional ceremony, the speeches packed with laughter, and the dance floor once the party really gets going. I blend into the day so you can soak up every second with the people you love, and by the end of the night I usually feel like an old family friend. That’s exactly the point, because when you forget the camera’s there, that’s when the honest, unguarded photos happen.
