Cathedral city charm, Test Valley gardens and a whole lot of fun.
Why Winchester Is A Beautiful Place To Get Married
Winchester might just be one of the loveliest places in Hampshire to say I do. It’s a proper historic cathedral city, all cobbled streets, honey-coloured stone and centuries of history, wrapped up in the gorgeous rolling countryside of the Test Valley. Whether you fancy an intimate city ceremony or a big garden party just outside town, Winchester has you well and truly covered.
I’m Emma, a fun and candid Hampshire wedding photographer, ranked top ten in the world for flash. I photograph the real stuff: the belly laughs, the nervous giggles and the dancefloor chaos, with zero stiff posing. Winchester is an easy (and very happy) drive from my Portsmouth base, so I’m over this way loads.
Winchester Registry Office, My Way
Daisy and Will tied the knot in the Castle Ceremony Room at Winchester Registry Office, all navy blue walls and history everywhere you look. The second Daisy walked in, they both dissolved into the most excited, nervous giggles. Then during the family photos outside, the bride’s dad and the groom decided to strike their best pose. Feet up, bouquet in hand, absolutely no dignity whatsoever. One of my favourite frames of the whole day!
Confession time: the first time I shot at Winchester Registry Office, I didn’t realise you have to pay for the multi-storey BEFORE you leave. No ticket, PHEW! Lesson very much learned, so now I know exactly where to park and I’m never late. 😂

Gardens, Barns And The Test Valley
Just outside the city you’ve got riverside gardens, rustic barns and those big, rolling Hampshire views. Perfect for a relaxed outdoor ceremony and a proper party afterwards.

Houghton Lodge Gardens
Esta and Joe had the threat of rain hovering all morning, then got the most beautiful outdoor ceremony without a single raindrop. They told me they were dreading their couple portraits, and they absolutely bossed it.

Kimbridge Barn
A gorgeous rustic barn in the Test Valley near Romsey, where Jon and Zoe partied after their Winchester Registry Office ceremony (with a guest joining all the way from Australia, on the phone!).

The Barn at Avington
A rustic barn just outside Winchester. I second shot here with a fellow local photographer and LOVED the vibe from the minute I arrived.

The Fun Bits
Like the moment the best man held up a “RUN JOE” sign halfway through his speech. Speeches, confetti, jumping guests and very silly family photos: this is the stuff I live for.
